Sutton Place

Manhattan (Midtown)

Overview

Sutton Place apartments provide a nice residential setting for its inhabitants. Sutton Place is a small section of Midtown East that runs from 2nd Avenue to the East River and from 53rd Street up to 59th Street. Its namesake is a street called Sutton Place between 1st Avenue and the East River that turns into York Avenue further north. This tiny area is mostly comprised of an older, well-to-do demographic with some families residing there as well. Living options consist of old-world luxury doorman buildings and ultra-expensive townhouses. Moving west to 1st Avenue, newer doorman buildings and walkups house more of the neighborhood’s residents. Transportation offerings are some of the best in the city with access to nine subways and several buses, all a few blocks away. No retail exists on Sutton Place, but 1st and 2nd Avenue is filled with restaurants, bars and specialty stores. Some of the best gourmet food and dessert shops can be found here, including Nicola’s, L. Simchick, Pisacane Seafood and Say It With Flour. One of the most appealing aspects of Sutton Place is certainly Sutton Place Park, a group of several tiny parks located at the end of every block from 53rd to 58th Streets with grass, benches and views of the East River, 59th Street Bridge and the rest of Manhattan’s east side.
