Turtle Bay

Manhattan (Midtown)

Overview

Turtle Bay apartments provide a diverse selection of living options for all types of demographics. Turtle Bay is a section of Midtown East that runs from Lexington Avenue to the East River and from 42nd Street up to 53rd Street. The area is characterized by two New York City institutions, the United Nations and Grand Central Station, which can both be positives and negatives for many residents. Quality restaurant and bar options are slightly limited in most of the 40’s, but improve in the lower and mid 50’s. The neighborhood is filled with a mix of walkups, doorman mid rises and luxury high rise buildings. The population is comprised of young professionals, families and a large portion of foreign diplomats. Transportation offerings include routes up and down the east side of Manhattan as well as three separate subways over to the west side. The area is also a great place to live for people who do the reverse commute up to Westchester or Connecticut during the week due to its proximity to Grand Central. A local favorite is Dag Hammarskjold Plaza, located on 47th Street from 1st Avenue to 2nd Avenue. Residents can sit and relax, attend intermittent crafts fairs and check out several monuments and fountains scattered throughout the park. At the east end near 1st Avenue, families and UN workers flock to the small concession café and garden to enjoy the treats and drinks offered by the NY Milkshake Company.
