Which utilities are generally included in the rent for an apartment?
The majority of buildings in NYC provide their tenants with water, gas and heat (non-electric), included in the rent. Electric, internet, cable and phone are typically not included and are the responsibility of the tenant.
However, please keep in mind that landlords have different policies, so it would be smart to check with the landlord in each case, as some may offer free electric or even cable/internet as an incentive, while others may require you to cover heat and water.
