How do I set up electric and gas service for my new home?

To set up electric and gas service for your new home, call Con Edison (“Con Ed”) at 1-800-75-CONED
(1-800-752-6633) or sign up online. You can call or go online as soon as you know your new address (Note: For rentals, faxing over a copy of your lease may be required in certain situations).

To establish service at your new address, the customer service rep will need the following information:

  • Your full name
  • The full address of where you would like to turn on service
  • Date that you assume responsibility of the property
  • Contact telephone number
  • Date of birth
  • Social security number
  • If a social security number is not available, then a driver or non-driver license ID, passport, or alien ID number should be provided
  • If you are unable to provide identification, note that a deposit will be charged to establish your account
  • Mailing address if you choose to have your bills mailed to a different address other than the service address
  • Email address to be added to your account
