Chelsea

Manhattan (Midtown)

Overview

Chelsea offers residents opportunities to live in a great part of the city with plenty to do. The area takes up a large portion of the west side of Manhattan from Broadway and 6th Avenue to 12th Avenue (the Hudson River) and from West 14th Street up to West 30th Street. The space includes parts of several smaller neighborhoods, each with their own distinct feel, including the northern section of the Meatpacking District, and a newer uber-popular West Chelsea neighborhood, primarily due to the rise of the High Line Park. This neighborhood has a diverse population with a significant 20’s and 30’s contingent living among an older art-loving crowd. Building options are very diverse with numerous high rise luxury buildings, low rise walk-ups and expansive lofts to choose from. Real estate prices therefore vary widely, depending on which section of the neighborhood you would like to reside in and the type of building desired. Some residents even choose to live specifically in southern Chelsea as a cheaper alternative to buying or renting in the West Village, where space can sometimes be difficult to come by. Chelsea is marked with some of the best “things to do” in New York City for every type of person. It is especially known for its dense selection of art galleries, where many people flock to catch an exhibition or two. If you are a sports enthusiast, Chelsea Piers offers athletes numerous fields, a driving range, an enormous gym, a climbing wall, multiple pools and any other services you can think of. Chelsea Market, a converted warehouse located in Meatpacking, is a cook’s dream, with countless food and supplies shops catering to whatever you desire. Finally, the High Line provides residents with a raised oasis, where one can take a nice stroll, enjoy views of the Hudson River or just lay around on a built-in wooden chaise lounge.
